DAW Setup
Anima is an instrument plugin that responds to MIDI input. Load it on an instrument/MIDI track and play notes to trigger sounds.
Ableton Live
- Create a new MIDI track
- In the browser, go to Plug-ins → Audio Units (Mac) or VST3 (Windows/Mac)
- Find Anima and drag it onto the MIDI track
- Drag a sample onto Anima's waveform display
- Arm the track and play MIDI notes
For MPE expression, enable MPE mode in Ableton's MIDI settings and use an MPE controller like Roli Seaboard or Sensel Morph.
Automation
All Anima parameters appear in Ableton's automation lanes. Click the plugin header's configure button to add parameters to the automation chooser.
Logic Pro
- Create a new Software Instrument track
- Click the instrument slot
- Navigate to Audio Units → Sequins → Anima
- Load a sample and play MIDI notes
MPE in Logic
Logic Pro supports MPE natively. Use an MPE controller and Logic will route per-note expression to Anima automatically.
FL Studio
- Open the Channel Rack
- Click the + button and select "More plugins..."
- Find Anima (VST3) and add it
- Load a sample and route MIDI to the Anima channel
Automation
Right-click any Anima parameter and select "Create automation clip" or "Link to controller."
Pro Tools
- Create a new Instrument track
- Click an insert slot
- Navigate to multichannel plug-in → Instrument → Anima
- Arm the track for MIDI input
Cubase / Nuendo
- Create an Instrument track
- Select Anima (VST3) as the instrument
- Load a sample and play
Expression Maps
Use Cubase's Expression Maps to automate Anima parameters from notation or key switches.
Bitwig Studio
- Create an Instrument track
- Add Anima as a device
- Use Bitwig's modulators to control Anima parameters
Bitwig supports MPE.
Studio One
- Create an Instrument track
- Select Anima from the instrument browser
- Load a sample and play
Reaper
- Create a new track
- Click the FX button
- Add Anima (VST3 or AU)
- Set the track to receive MIDI input
Loading Samples
Drag and Drop
Drag audio files directly from your DAW, file browser, or desktop onto Anima's waveform display.
Capture Mode
Click the record button in Anima to capture audio from your DAW. Route audio to Anima's sidechain input (if your DAW supports it) or play audio while Anima is recording.
MPE Configuration
Anima supports full MPE expression:
- Enable MPE on your controller
- Set your DAW to pass MPE messages to plugins
- Play - per-note pitch bend and pressure are recognized automatically

CPU Usage
Processing demands increase with:
- Higher voice counts
- Granular mode with high density
- Multiple active harmonics
If you experience dropouts:
- Reduce voice count
- Increase buffer size
- Disable unused harmonics
