Getting Started

Words is an unusual MIDI sequencer designed to help you escape your own musical habits. Instead of placing notes on a grid, you type text - and Words transforms it into MIDI patterns you'd never write yourself.

The magic is in not knowing what something will sound like until you hear it. Your text becomes notes, rhythms, and velocities - but the real power comes from layering probability and randomization on top. Gate chance, velocity variation, octave shifts. Let it run and patterns evolve in ways you couldn't plan. The same words never play exactly the same way twice.

Quick Start

  1. Launch Words from your Applications folder
  2. Type a sentence where the cursor is flashing
  3. Press Enter to commit the line
  4. Press the transport button at the top to play
  5. In your DAW, select MIDI coming from Words on channel 1
  6. Listen. Be surprised.
Tip:

Type a short phrase, then add another line below it on the same channel - just a few more words. Notice how simple patterns (three or four words each) loop over each other in unexpected ways.
